KATO finally does a limited release of the KIHA 81 KIHA 82-900, and KIRO 80 diesel in HO Scale

RJ’s Trains is excited to announce a unique release by KATO of the KIHA 81 KIHA 82-900, and KIRO 80 diesel Limited express Trains in HO Scale. YES in HO Scale! Pre-Orders will be due October 24thand Delivery will be in March 2019! Contact RJ's Trains for special Order information.

Built from 1960 to 1967 by a whole host of companies including Fuji Heavy Industries (now known as Subaru Corporation), Niigata Tekkō (now known as Niigata Transys) and Nippon Sharyo, the KiHa 80 series was the first diesel railcar that was exclusively used for Limited Express services on the JNR.

Being DMU’s these cars could be operated in a variety of different car configurations, so Kato will be allowing modelers to build up a train however they choose.

The KIRO 80 and KIHA 82-900 both share a flattened cab appearance than the distinctive bulldog-snout of the KIHA 81. The primary difference visually between the KIRO 80 is the number and shape of the windows on the side, as the KIHA 82-900 was originally converted from a 1stclass KIRO car.

Bonnet-nosed KiHa 80 series car 81 3 preserved at the Kyoto Railway Museum in May 2017.
