The Russian 2‑10‑0 “Decapod” was a rugged, no‑nonsense freight locomotive built for sheer pulling power. Originally ordered by the Imperial Russian State Railways during World War I, many of these engines never made it overseas due to the Russian Revolution. The U.S. Railroad Administration redirected them to American railroads, where their light axle loading and strong tractive effort made them ideal for branch lines and heavy slow‑speed work.
