Broadway Limited Imports HO Scale I5 New Haven
The New Haven I5, also known as the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Class I-5 Hudson, was a series of ten 4-6-4 steam locomotives built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1937. These semi-streamlined locomotives, with their distinctive bullet noses, were designed for fast passenger service between New Haven and Boston. The I5s were known for their reliability and performance, often handling 12-car, 830-ton trains up steep grades at speeds of up to 60 mph. Despite their latent power, speed restrictions on the line limited their full potential. Only ten of these locomotives were built, making them a rare and unique part of the New Haven Railroad’s history. The I5s left a lasting legacy as some of the last steam locomotives purchased by the New Haven Railroad.
