Description
The 10 section - 1 drawing room - 1 compartment design of plans 3973 and 3973a were among Pullman’s many popular sleeping car configurations. Over 117 of these cars were built for various railroads, carrying some of the most colorful Pullman names, often named for various Indian chiefs. After Pullman disbanded in the late 1940s, many of these sleepers were sold to various railroads nationwide, where they continued in service into the 1960s. These models feature full, separately-applied underbody details and accurate paint, lettering and names.

Gioconda is an Italian word that has multiple definitions, including:
- A painting: The Italian name for Leonardo da Vinci's painting, Mona Lisa, is La Gioconda, which translates to "the joyful one" or "the jocund one". The name is a pun on Lisa del Giocondo, the model in the painting, whose married name was Giocondo.
- A female name: Gioconda is a feminine name of Italian origin that means "delight". It comes from the Latin words iūcundus and iūcunda, which mean "joyful," "pleasant," "happy," "loveable," and "friendly"
- An Opera La Gioconda is also the name of an 1876 opera by Amilcare Ponchielli
- A play: La Gioconda is also the name of a tragedy by Gabriele d'Annunzio
