Prototype Information: The General Motors Locomotive Group (GMLG) Electro-Motive Division (EMD) SD70MAC is one of the most common locomotives on the rails today. Introduced in late 1993 with an initial order for the Burlington Northern, its production now totals over 900 units. This exceeds the combined production of the SD80MAC and SD90MAC locomotives by over 300 units. The SD70MAC, in all its variations, has been operated by six different railroads in eight distinct paint schemes, covering a range from East to West and from Mexico to Alaska!

Model Information: These models feature all-wheel electrical pick-up and blackened metal wheels in trucks that replicate the HTCR Phase II trucks. The prototype evolved from the HT-C trucks found on the SD40-2 through SD60 and includes radial steering capability. Additionally, these models will showcase walkway-mounted, lighted ditch lights. Handrails are made of a paintable material, allowing modelers to add white end railings with ease.

Special Note on BNSF SD70MAC #9647: The BNSF SD70MAC #9647 features a unique paint scheme known as the Merger Paint Scheme. This design was created during the merger of the Burlington Northern (BN) and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF). The locomotive's livery combines ATSF's iconic "Warbonnet" colors with BN's "Grinstein" cream and green scheme. This distinctive blend has earned it the nickname "Vomitbonnet" among railfans.

Model Features:

  • Powerful Five-Pole KATO Motor: Equipped with dual brass flywheels for smoother operation.

  • Directional Headlight: Includes illuminated, preprinted numberboards.

  • Kato Magnetic Knuckle Coupler: Ensures reliable coupling.

  • DCC Friendly Mechanism: Ready for drop-in decoder installation.

  • Drop-in DCC Compatibility: Works with Train Control Systems K1D4 and ESU 58741 LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct from Kato USA.
